Wachusett Dam & Reservoir

The Assabet Bridge & Aqueduct

Located in Northborough, this bridge is a straight span of seven stone arches, crossing over Hudson Street near Allen Street and the Assabet River. Built to carry a section of the Wachusett Aqueduct from the Wachusett Reservoir to Sudbury Reservoir, it is used as a backup conduit to the more modern Cosgrove Aqueduct today but stands ready for service should the need arise.

A generous selection of descriptive text, excerpted from the original Annual Reports of the Water Board and the  Chief Engineer (1896 & 1897), gives an idea of their impressions of the bridge.

Thanks,

Paul
